Dr Gill is a "Medicare Provider". If you have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder that your GP considers eligible for a Medicare rebate under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care Program, then you could receive partial help towards the cost of up to 10 individual counselling sessions, per calendar year, for certain mental health diagnoses.
Medicare entitlement can allow for up to 10 Rebated Psychology sessions per calendar year. Usually you will be referred for 6 sessions, followed by review and possibly a further 4 sessions in a 12 month period.
1 Book an appointment with your GP for a Mental Health Care Planning Appointment, to see if you are eligible for Medicare rebates. If you are eligible, your GP can send the paperwork (the referral letter addressed to Dr Gill, stating the number of sessions you are referred for along with the mental health care plan) directly to Your Psychology Journey through the secure messaging service Argus - see the contacts page for address details. Alternatively, either you or the surgery receptionist can send the paperwork through email or snail mail (post).
2 Once Dr Gill has received this paperwork she will call you to arrange a time to book your appointment. The current wait time is less than a week.
3 On the day of the appointment please be ready to either receive a phone call (or a video call). This is a tele health practice only at present, though there may be scope for face to face. If this is your preference and you live in the Hobart area please enquire further. Please ensure your phone is charged, and you are in a quiet and safe location where you cannot be overheard and have your Medicare card (and Concession card if relevant) with you for the assessment. You will also need to be ready to make full payment of the fee at the time of the appointment so you can receive an invoice, that you will need to submit your claim for the Medicare rebate. This can be claimed through the myGov app/account if linked to Medicare.
1 Dr Gill is a "Recognised Provider" for Private Health Funds, however, each fund has it's own processes so it is important to check with them whether you will be eligible to claim a rebate. The private health insurance policy and type of cover you have will also affect the number of sessions, waiting periods, gaps and annual funding caps you may incur, as these can vary quite vastly between funds. It is advisable to check directly with your fund provider what your specific entitlement will be. You can also pay for sessions privately once your PHI runs out.
2 You can either book online for a quick chat (Dr Gill will call you for 15 minutes at your chosen time booked in the calendar) or you can call directly to book an appointment. Some people choose just to use private health funds to aid anonymity from GPs, whilst others may choose to use Medicare first to help cover the cost of the first 10 sessions, and use a private health fund to help cover the cost of continuing therapy, if required, once the Medicare sessions have been used for that calendar year. Please note, that Private Health Funds and Medicare cannot be used together to cover the gap cost of a single session.
3 On the day of the appointment please be ready to make complete payment. Your Psychology Journey will then provide an invoice with the item number for you to send back to your insurer to claim back the rebate. This is a tele health practice only. Please ensure that your PHI plan covers this and that you are technology and network ready, in a quiet, private and safe location where you cannot be overheard.
Dr Gill may work with participants who hold self-managed and plan-managed NDIS funding, however, not with NDIA managed funds. The number of sessions you can use depends on your needs according to the Australian Government’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). If you are unsure please call (see the contacts tab on this website) to request a form to complete which will make this part easier to figure out or send through your Access Plan and Dr Gill will contact you to discuss further.
1 If you meet the criteria above, are aged 18 years and over, and wish to have Telephone or Video call sessions, and you are able to use the technology without assistance (or with the support of a support coordinator), you may be eligible. Please contact the practice as you will need to fill out a form. If you are already Plan Managed, or Self-managed, then you can send through your paperwork (Access Plan) to Dr Gill. Either way, see the contacts page for address details.
2 Once Dr Gill has received this information and checked the relevance of your goals to Your Psychology Journey's scope of practice, she will call you to either discuss or arrange a suitable time to book an appointment.
3 On the day of the appointment please be ready to either receive a phone call (or a video call). This is a tele health practice only. Please ensure you are technology and network ready, in a quiet, private and safe location where you cannot be overheard. Please also be ready to provide details of your Plan Funding Provider so an invoice can be sent to them directly or to make payment yourself, at the time of the appointment.
